MUSICAL DIRECTOR
Harvey Baigent - LRSM GCGI

Harvey Baigent originally comes from Warwickshire, where he began his musical career as a chorister. At the age of 8 he started to learn the cornet with the village brass band and at 14 became principal trumpet of the Warwickshire Youth Orchestra.

Harvey joined the Royal Air Force as a musician at 17, spending much of his career after graduation from the RAF School of Music with the Central Band of the RAF, for many years as the principal cornet/trumpet.

He completed the RAF Bandmaster’s course in 1997 and qualified as a conductor, being awarded the Sir Felix Cassel Silver Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians in the same year. Eventually Harvey became the Bandmaster for Training and Senior Drum Major of the Royal Air Force.

In 2006 Harvey retired from the RAF, after a few months working at the Royal College of Music he joined the Royal Air Forces Association as their South Eastern Area Administrator.

In 2012 Harvey worked at the East Barnet Music Centre as their principal conductor. During 2013 he took up a placement in Qatar  as the trumpet professor and conductor for their army band. In July 2014 he was invited to join the Buckinghamshire Learning Trust Music as a conductor and brass teacher.

During his extensive musical career Harvey has performed with many musical combinations and genres from solo trumpeter to full symphony orchestra. In addition to the bands of the Royal Air Force Harvey has played with The National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain, The Hitchen Concert Orchestra, The RAF Squadronaires, Black Dyke Mills Brass Band, Sun Life Brass Band, Henry’s Boot Blacks (traditional dance orchestra), Pontins and Butlins Holiday Camps show bands, Bristol Cream Big Band, The BBC Wind Orchestra and The London Mozart Players. Harvey studied conducting with many eminent maestros including Dr Rod Winther (University of Cincinnati), Frank Renton, Dr Lazlo Marosi (University of Florida), Guy Woolfenden, Tim Reynish (RNCM) and Baldur Brönnimann (RNCM)

Harvey is in great demand as a conductor and brass clinician both here and abroad.
