He completed the RAF Bandmaster’s course in 1997 and qualified as a conductor, being awarded the Sir Felix Cassel Silver Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians in the same year. Eventually Harvey became the Bandmaster for Training and Senior Drum Major of the Royal Air Force.

In 2006 Harvey retired from the RAF, after a few months working at the Royal College of Music he joined the Royal Air Forces Association as their South Eastern Area Administrator.

In July 2014 he was invited to join the Buckinghamshire Learning Trust Music as a conductor and brass teacher.

During his extensive musical career Harvey has performed with many musical combinations and genres from solo trumpeter to full symphony orchestra.
